Hi, I’m Kaitlin! I started Voila Sunless in 2010. My little spray tan business has evolved through life with me. I started with offering mobile spray tanning, to then setting up a room in my basement when I had little kiddos at home with me, to finally opening a storefront location (inside the Nourish Massage Therapy building) on the Molengracht in Pella, Iowa. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2019, and finding out that I’m a BRCA2 mutation carrier, I realized how important it is for me to promote and encourage safe tanning practices in hopes to prevent skin cancer from developing. We all love having that golden glow, so let’s get a tan the healthy way! (Men are required to wear shorts or swim trunks) • high capacity extraction fan unit for clean air during application What to do BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER your spray tan! BEFORE your Spray Tan Exfoliation is key in prepping for your custom spray tan. Proper exfoliation will provide a smooth surface on the top layer of your skin so that we can give you a gorgeous, even glow. In the shower: shave legs, underarms, etc. and exfoliate the skin LAST with an exfoliating glove, mitt or clean washcloth. AVOID Dove products, bar soaps and moisturizing scrubs as some may leave residue which interferes with the development of tanning solutions. DO NOT apply deodorant, lotions, or perfumed products after your shower. *Any Mani/Pedi's, Hair or Waxing appointments must be done 24 hours BEFORE your Spray Tan. DURING your Spray Tan: When you arrive at your appointment, you will be asked to fill out an Airbrush Tanning Waiver & Liability Release if it's your first time at Voila Sunless. We will start with a complimentary consultation to discuss your skin tone and color preferences. If you have any skin sensitivities, allergies, peeling or dry skin, let us know. After your consultation, you are free to get undressed to what is comfortable for you. Think about what tan lines you want or don't want. Disposables are complimentary and always available. Men are required to wear bottoms. For your comfort and safety, we have a high-capacity extraction fan booth running at all times. The spray tan room is well-ventilated and temperature can be adjusted as needed. Your comfort is our priority! Your custom spray tan will be applied by hand with an airbrush spray gun. During the application, we will walk you through the movements needed to ensure a flawless spray tan! Application takes around 10-15 minutes. We recommend that you bring along or wear loose-fitting, dark clothing. Cotton is best! For footwear, think loose and comfy, too. If it’s raining be sure to bring an umbrella or park in the parking garage underneath the Molengracht. AFTER your Spray Tan: You'll need to wait a minimum 8 hours before showering when choosing our Signature Tan. It is recommended that you also avoid swimming, working out, or any activity that will cause excess sweating before the 8 hours is up. Also avoid skin to skin contact as this can lighten/darken those areas. If you choose the Rapid Tan, you can shower 2-5 hours (depending on how deep you want your tan) after your session. This is a great option if you have plans that evening or you prefer not to sleep in it. Please note the color will still take 8+ hours to fully develop but the Rapid gives you the convenience of showering sooner. *Remember* When you shower or rinse for the first time after your application, you will see the cosmetic bronzer wash away with the water. Don't worry, your tan isn't falling off! Just let the water run over your body and watch the water until it runs clear. Moisturize your skin! You should be applying moisturizer at least twice each day after your tan. Avoid long, hot baths or hot tubs. This will decrease the longevity of your spray tan. Always pat yourself dry. Do not scrub your skin. This will only make your tan wear faster. FAQ: How do I prepare? Shower, shave, and exfoliate several hours or the day before your session. Try to avoid waxing or other spa treatments the day of your appointment. For best results, do not wear makeup or deodorant to your appointment. How many days before my event should I tan? 1-3 days before the event is best. What should I wear during the session? Whatever you're comfortable with. You can wear underwear, a bathing suit, or use one of our disposable thongs. We also have disposable hairnets. Men are required to wear shorts or swim trunks. Will I turn orange? Not at all. High quality DHA products with balanced ingredients will not cause an orange color. A certified technician will understand your skin's color and match you with the best DHA solution. What exactly is DHA? DHA, or Dihydroxiaceton, is an ingredient derived from natural ingredients found in beets and sugar cane. When DHA comes in contact with the amino acids of the skin, it creates a natural reaction that results in the skin appearing tanned. Are your solutions organic? Yes! All of our solutions are: - Made from natural ingredients - Paraben Free - Vegan How long will it last? 7 days on average When can I shower? I’ll let you know your recommended rinse time at your appointment. This will also depend on which spray tan you select and how dark you are wanting to be. What about waxing, mani/pedis, and massages? I would highly recommend doing these things BEFORE tanning. If you come straight from a massage or pedicure make sure all oils and lotions are removed from your skin first, as these can block the tan from absorbing. Is it safe? What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding? YES! Super safe! Our spray tan and self tanning products have been approved for external use by the FDA and are all natural. Always ask your doctor if you are concerned. What should I wear afterwards? Wear loose clothing in dark colors. Avoid putting a bra back on if possible! What should I avoid afterwards? Avoid highly scented lotions, mineral oils, perfumes, astringents, and cleaning solutions with acid or peroxide. Anything harsh or chemical will wear away your tan more quickly. Can I shave and go swimming? While your spray tan is new, you'll want to avoid chlorinated water, as this can make the color fade faster. If you do get in to a pool, rinse off with water to get the chlorine off of your skin. In addition, cut the amount of shaving you do down to a minimum, as this works as an exfoliant. How do I take care of my tan? Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Natural, fragrance-free lotions are best. This will ensure that your skin remains healthy and hydrated, and that your spray tan lasts longer. You can also use a gradual tanning lotion or tan extender. Where are you located exactly? We’re located across the street from Pella Regional Hospital and Iowa Ortho in a 2-story brick building with white columns and double black doors. Voila Sunless is in the same building as Restore Collaborative (formerly Pella Skin Apothecary) Where should I park? You can park right out front of the building or the lot to the left of our building. Services are by appointment only. If you don’t see a time that works for your schedule, please reach out to me!

Cancellation Policy

If you need to reschedule or cancel your upcoming appointment, please try notify Voila Sunless at least 12 hours in advance. This allows for other clients to book the open time slot. All clients will receive an email/text reminder 24 hours before their scheduled session. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 12 hours notice, a $15 cancellation fee will be charged to the card used to book the appointment. No-Shows will be charged the full amount of the service booked. Of course I’m aware that life happens, so please reach out if something comes up. I’ll always allow you to rebook within 2 weeks before charging you with the cancellation fee.
